Share on Facebook A home stereo typically will come with a built-in amplifier for powering the system and driving the speakers. The main reason for connecting an amplifier to the stereo would be to supply additional power for driving larger or additional speakers for a stronger sound. This setup requires a home stereo with audio output jacks for connecting a second tape deck, except the amp will be connected to these jacks instead of a tape deck. Standard stereo audio cables complete the connection. Hook up a home stereo to an amp with standard audio cables. Step Unplug the stereo and the amplifier from the electricity. Step Connect the two plugs on one end of the audio cable to the left and right output jacks labeled for the tape deck on the home stereo. The red plug connects to the right jack and the white plug goes to the left. Video of the Day Step Insert the plugs on the other end into the matching left and right audio inputs on the amplifier.

How to Connect Speakers With Speaker Wire

Share on Facebook You’ve just purchased watt speakers capable of a gust-busting 91 decibels, backed by a watt four-channel amplifier. The only problem here is that you’re a bit lacking in the wiring department and want to make sure you’ve correctly put together these monster noise machines all for the sake of blowing your neighbors out of their lounge chairs. Hooking up speakers to an amp is simple.

In this article we look at some of the practical ways of wiring four speakers to each amplifier left and right. For example, it is normal to have your main HiFi amplifier in the lounge room. It is also common to want to have some speakers in the family room, outside patio or pool area and in the workshop or garage.

If you need to connect just 2 pair of speakers to a HiFi stereo amplifier that is, 2 speakers to 1 amp , see my article on How to connect 2 speakers to 1 amplifier. I have had many people over the years tell me it is easy to connect multiple speakers — all you have to do is wire the speakers in series. In the following diagrams I will only show the wiring for one side of a stereo amplifier, lets says the left side of the stereo. In reality this wiring needs to be duplicated for the right side speakers too.

Four speakers wired in parallel This diagram shows how to wire four speakers in parallel. It is the same as wiring each speaker directly from the amplifier, like this: Wiring speakers in parallel is not a good way of connecting three, four or more HiFi speakers as it puts too much load on the amplifier as explained in earlier article Four speakers wired in series This diagram shows how to wire four speakers in series. Again this is not a recommended way of wiring four speakers although it will work , nor is it very practical.

Apart from the hassle of having to wire from one speaker to the next, if one wire is disconnected, then all speakers will stop working. Also each speaker affects the total load seen by the amplifier which will only allow it to work up to one eighth of its potential. This is closer to a daisy chain as each speaker and corresponding single wire forms part of a daisy chain loop.

I’ve had friends run Kove 12″s, 4 doors and 2 tweeters off a 5 channel amp before. I doubt it got the sub to it’s RMS rating, but it sounded pretty good and got the job done, I just wouldn’t recommend it like that. I want to amp my tweeters and 6X9’s and my sub, different amps for the subs and speakers I don’t understand how you do it because the speakers have to be hooked up to the head unit right??

A good rule of thumb when hooking up a home theater system is that 16 gauge cable will work in just about any in-room situation, but if your runs are going to be over feet in length, 12 gauge cable will further drop your resistance and keep your cables from becoming equalizers for your sound.

When was the last time you had anything hooked up to the tape monitors? If you are like me you ditched your cassette deck years ago It would not have occurred to me to attempt to connect the Little Dot to the headphone jack of the Yamaha, but in theory that should work no differently than connecting to the headphone jack of your iPad note it would be better to access a line out signal from your iPad via some sort of docking device.

Sounds like the Yamaha’s headphone circuit may be shot. Do you hear noise and distortion if you hook up your headphones directly to the Yamaha headphone jack too? I would think it is pretty unusual for the headphone circuitry and both tape monitors to fail in the same unit. Either you are very unlucky, have grievously mistreated your poor Yamaha over the years, or are doing something wrong that is not readily apparent from my view across the interwebs most likely There should be a way to make this work if your Yamaha is in good working order.

The headphones work fine when plugged directly into the Yamaha amp. No noise or distortion. Like you, I haven’t used a cassette deck in ages. Back when I used it, though, I was unable to hear output when I pressed the “monitoring” button while recording, so maybe the Yamaha amp has been defective in that area all along. The cassette playback function worked fine, so there might be some kind of weird problem going on in there.

I suspect the Yamaha amp is defective. Twenty-six years has been a long run, and I’ve certainly gotten my money’s worth. I appreciate your assistance!

These switches allow you to route a single audio source and sometimes more than one through a switching system that distributes the audio to various speakers or speaker pairs throughout the home. In this way you can choose, or select, which areas of the home you want to have audio. While simplistic, there are things you want to take into account when using these devices so that you use them properly and also maximize the way you distribute audio to various speakers in your particular application.

Typically, a speaker selector switch is placed after an amplifier or AV receiver, so that it can take a source—be it a radio, iPod or other streaming music source—and pass that on to speakers throughout your house. These are typically passive devices intended for use with already-amplified speaker-level signals. Options and Controls Speaker selector switches can range from handling two pairs of speakers all the way up to 8 pairs of speakers or more, but they all work in basically the same way.

Class AB amps combine the good points of class A and B amps. They have the improved efficiency of class B amps and distortion performance that is a lot closer to that of a class A amp. With such amplifiers, distortion is worst when the signal is low, and generally lowest when the signal is just reaching the point of clipping. Class AB amps like class B use pairs of transistors, both of them being biased slightly ON so that the crossover distortion associated with Class B amps is largely eliminated.

Class C amps are never used for audio circuits. They are commonly used in RF circuits. Class C amplifiers operate the output transistor in a state that results in tremendous distortion it would be totally unsuitable for audio reproduction. However, the RF circuits where Class C amps are used employ filtering so that the final signal is completely acceptable.

Class C amps are quite efficient. Due to improvements in the speed, power capacity and efficiency of modern semiconductor devices, applications using Class D amps have become affordable for the common person. Whereas the aforementioned classes of amplifier operate the semiconductor devices in the linear mode, Class D amplifiers operate the output semiconductor devices as switches ON or OFF. In a Class D amplifier, the input signal is compared with a high frequency triangle wave, resulting in the generation of a Pulse Width Modulation PWM type signal.

This makes the GTO19t an ideal tweeter upgrade for systems powered with head-unit or factory amplifier power, or even with many of the GTO Series amplifier combinations to help keep up with systems that feature one or more subwoofers. Three-ohm voice coils Three-ohm voice coils in the GTO 19t stand-alone tweeter compensate for the added resistance by thin factory-speaker wiring and provide more output than other tweeter components of the same class.

Frequency response up to 21kHz A wide frequency response that extends beyond 20kHz helps compensate for speaker placement variations in your car and human hearing deficiencies in the high-frequency spectrum above 15kHz. High sensitivity 93dB 2. With a sensitivity of 93 decibels at 2.

Just what is tone? What is a good tone and how do you achieve it? Which amps you should choose for your setup and how to get the tones you want. We also looked at the importance of choosing the right guitar — not only for your technique and rig but also for inspiration to play and create music. Check out part 1 and part 2. Amps People tend to prioritize guitars and a bunch of pedals and forget the importance of a good sounding amp.

Choosing the right amp for your setup is crucial for getting the tones you want from your guitar and pedals. I strongly suggest that you buy a guitar and amp before you spend all your savings on pedals. This will ensure the best fundament for your tones and playing. A tube amp consist of a pre-amp section that takes the small signal from your guitar and amplifies it enough to drive the power amp section.

Most amps allow you to manipulate the pre-amp signal with a number of gain and EQ controls. The signal is then fed into the power amp, which gives the power to drive the speakers. The amp could either be a head with one or more speaker cabinets or a combo, with the amp section and speaker cab combined. My best tip is that you spend some time checking out different models.
